Cisco errors
The below are errors or typos that I run into while reading the Cisco documentation. I initially posted them on Cisco Learning Network but nobody seemed to care so I just removed them from there.
My point with these is that sometimes you can not trust the documentation.

Patrick Geschwindner - CCIE R&S, CCSI 10-Apr-2016 15:06 (in response to 1001QA.NET)
Then open a TAC case for a change request and let them know. Here is an example how this should look like:

Sorry ..not my problem. this is as much as I can do
Someone who works for Cisco should do it

Not your problem? Then don't complain about it. This whole industry like all others, in its fast growing pace is living from constructive feedback to get all of us forward.

That is constructive feedback. If I was to complain I have more important things that a copy and paste error
One would be the lab which is focused to test how fast the candidate is not his understanding of various topics in the curriculum

Matt Saunders - Community Manager 11-Apr-2016 15:45 (in response to 1001QA.NET)
Thank you both for your feedback and input here. One of our teammates here is working to submit a change/update request to the appropriate team.

1001QA.NET 11-Apr-2016 16:09 (in response to Matt Saunders - Community Manager)
You are welcome Matt
Keep an eye on this thread, I will report them here as I run into them.
Two years ago when I used to read the docs I came across of many like this.
Now I am just reviewing my notes but I might spot more as my study is progressing

Re: Cisco you should fix these
1001QA.NET 23-May-2016 13:39 (in response to 1001QA.NET)
R1(config)#route-map test <-----------------this is an existing route-map
% Please specify the entry by its sequence
R1(config)# <-----------------the prompt here should be (config-route-map)# ..shouldn't it?
R1(config)#exit
R1#config term
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
R1(config)#route-map test1 <-----------------this is a new route-map
R1(config-route-map)#exit
R1(config)#
The user gets confused and does not realize by the look of the prompt that he is in a route-map config mode.

narbik 23-May-2016 14:44 (in response to 1001QA.NET)
Since it didn't take the command, it put you back to the global config mode. What if that route-map "test" had 20 lines? where should the IOS put you when you didn't specify the actual sequence number? Do you see where they are going with this?

Now I do, thank you for that, but it is not very clear if that is an error message or directions regarding what to do next.

1001QA.NET 25-May-2016 20:45 (in response to 1001QA.NET)
1. enable
2. configure terminal
3. Perform one of the following steps:
4. bfd interval milliseconds min_rx milliseconds multiplier interval-multiplier
5. end
step 3 should be
interface type/number
This step was omitted

the guy who wrote this manual did not like the command "interface type/number"

IP Tunneling - Configuration Examples and TechNotes - Cisco
On this page you have two PPTP sections. What is the point ? Group them together
The drop down box at the top ...if you select PPTP it does not take you to any of those two sections :-)

Re: Cisco you should fix these
1001QA.NET 02-Jun-2016 11:58 (in response to 1001QA.NET)
From a common user perspective (not a CCIE R&S candidate siting in a lab session) the Cisco site is sometimes confusing and impossible to navigate
Before you used to have a left side bar that would give you the tree of links and you could undertand what you were reading
Not anymore
Take for example these two pages:
Configuring Internet Key Exchange for IPsec VPNs [Support] - Cisco Systems
Besides the fact that they are identical, even URL is almost identical and you can not actually guess where you are reading ..what book, what chapter
Note: the URL says 15.2MT and 15MT for the other one ...what is the point to name them like that ?

Re: Cisco you should fix these
1001QA.NET 02-Jun-2016 19:25 (in response to 1001QA.NET)
1. enable
2. configure terminal
3. crypto map [ipv6] map-name seq-num [ipsec-isakmp]
4. match address access-list-id
5. set peer {hostname | ip-address}
6. crypto ipsec security-association dummy {pps rate | secondsseconds}
7. set transform-set transform-set-name1 [transform-set-name2...transform-set-name6]
8. set security-association lifetime {seconds seconds | kilobytes kilobytes | kilobytes disable}
9. set security-association level per-host
10. set pfs [group1 | group14 | group15 | group16 | group19 | group2 | group20 | group24 | group5]
11. end
12. show crypto map [interface interface | tag map-name]
That has nothing to do with that topic which is configuring crypto-maps

I think those are typos

Re: Cisco you should fix these
1001QA.NET 30-Jun-2016 09:05 (in response to 1001QA.NET)
VR3(config-router)#distribute-list ?
<1-199> IP access list number
<1300-2699> IP expanded access list number
WORD Access-list name
gateway Filtering incoming updates based on gateway <----------- I think that the word incomming should not be used here
prefix Filter prefixes in routing updates
But then you say incoming or outgoing updates
VR3(config-router)#distribute-list gateway FRR ?
in Filter incoming routing updates
out Filter outgoing routing updates
-
Re: Cisco you should fix these
1001QA.NET 17-Jun-2016 11:56 (in response to 1001QA.NET)
I don't think that anybody is bothering to fix these but here is one more:
distribute-list out (IP)
To suppress networks from being advertised in updates, use the distribute-listout command in the appropriate configuration mode.To cancel this function, use the no form of this command.
distribute-list { access-list-number | access-list-name } out [ interface-name | routing-process | as-number ]
no distribute-list { access-list-number | access-list-name } out [ interface-name | routing-process | as-number ]
And the router says:
(config-router)#distribute-list gateway tt ?
in Filter incoming routing updates
out Filter outgoing routing updates
so the option GATEWAY IS AVAILABLE FOR THIS COMMAND but the command index says it is not

Re: Cisco you should fix these
1001QA.NET 20-Jun-2016 10:31 (in response to 1001QA.NET)
Well well well ....Cisco you have to make up your mind.
This bug is really horrible.
VR1(config)#do sh udp
Proto Remote Port Local Port In Out Stat TTY OutputIF
17 --listen-- 172.16.1.1 520 0 0 1000001 0
17(v6) --listen-- FE80::1 521 0 0 1020001 0
VR1(config)#
VR1(config)#
VR1(config)#
VR1(config)#
VR1(config)#
VR1(config)#do sh ipv6 rip
RIP process "100", port 111, multicast-group FF02::9, pid 109
Administrative distance is 120. Maximum paths is 16
Updates every 30 seconds, expire after 180
Holddown lasts 0 seconds, garbage collect after 120
Split horizon is on; poison reverse is off
Default routes are not generated
Periodic updates 241, trigger updates 5
Full Advertisement 0, Delayed Events 0
Interfaces:
Serial2/0
Ethernet0/1
Redistribution:
None
VR1(config)#do sh run | s ipv6 router
ipv6 router rip 100
port 111 multicast-group FF02::9
VR1(config)#
The above were obtained after using the command
ipv6 router rip 100
port 111 multicast-group FF02::9
and then imediately followed by
no port 111 multicast-group FF02::9
do clear ipv6 rip 100

Re: Cisco you should fix these

Metric = [(K1*Minimum Throughput + {K2*Minimum Throughput} / 256-Load) + (K3*Total Latency) + (K6*Extended Attributes)]* [K5/(K4 + Reliability)]
should be
Metric = [(K1*Minimum Throughput + {K2*Minimum Throughput} / (256-Load) + (K3*Total Latency) + (K6*Extended Attributes)]* [K5/(K4 + Reliability)]
a typo, you missed a '('

jgmarr 26-Jun-2016 15:25 (in response to 1001QA.NET)
Just a math comment on this.
Adding the extra parenthesis is leaving the first parenthesis in the formula opened with no close.
Metric = [(K1*Minimum Throughput + {K2*Minimum Throughput} / (256-Load) + (K3*Total Latency) + (K6*Extended Attributes)]* [K5/(K4 + Reliability)]
Juan Carlos.

Are you sure?
-
Re: Cisco you should fix these
jgmarr 26-Jun-2016 16:23 (in response to 1001QA.NET)
I am double checking... it seems to me a parenthesis is being missed in the corrected formula to close the first parenthesis.

The parenthesis you highlighted is not need

Re: Cisco you should fix these
jgmarr 26-Jun-2016 17:07 (in response to 1001QA.NET)
Ok. Then probably you want to mark it as another typo.
Note: I have not checked the formula from the EIGRP perspective - busy in few other things. Hope somebody else can join and provide some insight.
We/Humans are exposed to mistake and typos all the time, lol.
Thanks,
Juan Carlos.

You wrote:

should be

...
Just wondering if the "should be formula" has a typo as well.Note: From what I see you added an extra parenthesis and after that the heading parenthesis in the formula is orphan.

Can't see why in EIGRP Named mode "metric version" is a hidden command
Maybe I like the structured named mode but I don't need the wide metrics. After all who has 10G in their WAN ? :-)

A hidden gem in the IOS, the never ending command ..
router eigrp 100
redistribute ospf 1 match external external external external external external external external external external external external ....
this command actually works :-)

ip ospf flood-reduction
To suppress the unnecessary flooding of link-state advertisements (LSAs) in stable topologies, use the ip ospf flood-reductioncommand in interface configuration mode. To disable this feature, use the no form of this command.
ip ospf flood-reduction flood-reduction [disable]
there is a duplication in the above command line
summary-address commandsummary-address { ip-address mask | prefix mask } [not-advertise] [ tag tag ] [nssa-only] <—duplicate summary
